Dedication to a cause can be contagious.
I started
The Dog Star Painting Project in 2001to bring to consciousness the plight of the
unwanted dog and cat population, as well as offering a solution:
Let a dog or cat rescue you. A great poem by Dr. Warren Molton was all I needed to make this small letterpress book. Brady Vest from Hammerpress in Kansas City, Missouri printed a limited edition letterpress book
My goal is to produce paintings that feature a great cat or dog with their committed owner. With the owners approval, I will be photographing and then painting for commission (if desired) pet owners in the Kansas City area. I hope this project strongly conveys the idea that, indeed, dog is man's best friend. They have followed us around from time immemorial depending on our company and our table scraps. They've kept us warm and faithfully worked the hunt and the herd. In an age when we have so much, hopefully those who see these images will miss that great, simple companionship of a cat or a dog. marie mason
